Diapers We Love--Seventh Generation

I have been using Seventh Generation diapers for over a year for my toddler who's now near 2 and starting potty training so before we venture onto that trip I wanted to share with you our experience with a more eco friendly diaper. I know we all get a little skeptical about organic and green products. Will they work? I skeptically bought these diapers thinking they would leak or wouldn't hold up to the Huggies and Pampers with all the fancy branding and styles of Sesame Street and Disney to Choose From. NOT TRUE--I have used size 2, size 3, and my girl is now in size 4's for my toddler and through all the stages these diapers have been my favorite. They haven't leaked like the yellow Pampers did, they don't fall off and they are good for the environment, and are chemical free for your baby, they don't have that overly chemical fragrant smell, they're just a light brown earthy diaper and a perfect alternative for those that can't really afford to do the cloth diaper thing.

You can even order them online on auto deliver. Yes, no more lugging diaper boxes home from Costco. My husband has an order on http://www.amazon.com/ that reorders every month with FREE SHIPPING, and 15% Off ...the total being $34 for (120 diapers for size 4) (140 for size 3)...Not bad on the Price!! Definitely competitive with the big name brands!!

These diapers are not just Chlorine Free, but also Fragrance Free, Latex Free, and Hypo-Allergenic! For more info. on these diapers www.seventhgeneration.com/diapers!

And you'll feel good about these because you're protecting your baby by protecting him and his world that he will grow up to live in!

Chemical Free Sunscreens The Way to Go for You and Your Baby

Does anyone else find the ingredients in some of our children's products that are supposed to protect them a little alarming? I mean take a look at sunscreen! It is supposed to protect your little ones but have you ever wondered if the active ingredients (CHEMICALS) that you are applying liberally to your baby might be just as bad as a burn? And it is difficult to weed out the information, so what is the truth? The first time I pulled out my own sunscreen for my baby I checked the back, thought twice...hmmm...what's this oxybenzone, propolyne glycol, and lots of icky sounding ingredients? Without trying to be fanatical I wondered what is all this stuff? I read once in a health magazine that you shouldn't put products on your skin that you couldn't put in your mouth. A little difficult, but definitely something to think about and definitely has an er of truth.

So what to do for sunscreen? Is there anything out there that can protect you from the sun without causing more harm? When I need a sunscreen I use some of Burt's Bees Chemical Free products. Now they are not a totally organic brand or anything like that but they are pretty darn natural and devoid of so many of the chemicals that you can't even pronounce. The older version of Burt's Bees Chemical Free Sunscreen was hard to put on and very very thick, but the new version I bought this year has the consistency of regular sun tan lotion, smells nice, has SPF 30 and is CHEMICAL FREE! And the less chemicals the less irritation for your baby's skin!! It is also relatively easy to find at most convenience stores that carry suntan lotion, especially CVS, Long's Drug, and Walgreens! So you don't even have to make an extra trip to a health foods store. Yay! A product that as mom we can stand by and eliminates just a little more of our angst as we try to give our little ones the best start possible.

So if your looking to go a little more natural check this product out. It's a great buy and not going to break your bank like some high end designer products!

I HEART FLEURVILLE-The Hip and Green Diaper Bag

Yay a cute Green Diaper Bag!

I finally found a brand of Green Diaper Bag that doesn't look Green if you know what I mean. Even though I think more and more about the environment every day as I watch my little 2 year old run around through the grass or visit the beach and I want my accessories to be as friendly to the environment as possible, I still do not want to sacrifice the Fun Hip factor. I don't want a camo looking manly diaper bag that looks like i could live out of it for a month. I am not sorry that I want a girly girl diaper bag because I do. And now I've found a whole bunch of them that are Green and are in so many adorable styles. The brand is Fleurville, ladies and they have so many styles and they even sell back packs for our little ones! The difference between their bags and the others is that they use a special fabric called Green Lam that is PVC free and environmentally friendly and cute! One of my personal favorites is the Fleurville Pink Love Knots Sling Tote Messenger bag that you can find at our Shoppe, just check out the link above, or for more options check out http://fleurville.com/home. Fleurville is committed to the preserving the environment so our little precious ones can enjoy all that we have in our lifetime. It doesn't get much better than that!

Thinking of Going Organic? Go For IT!

So you've read the research and you're thinking that maybe going organic is a good idea for your family. But in this economy you're also wondering how the heck do i do that? Isn't it going to cost a fortune?

Thinking of going Organic? That's great! Remember you don't have to go all at once and remember you can go organic on a budget. Just because you go organic doesn't mean you have to shop for all your groceries at Whole Foods because although I love that store I cannot afford to shop where the celebs do.

Plant a Garden! Here's a fabulous idea, start a small garden with your family, start growing easy things like tomatos and strawberries. Invest time out there with your lil ones and see how the family grows and how inexpensive your grocery bill becomes!

Make a goal! Start off with only organic produce or 25% of your groceries being organic. Remember any changes you are making will have a positive impact on your family!! And focus on purchasing Organic produce like strawberries and spinach that tend to hold a lot of pesticides.

Go Shopping! Who doesn't love planning a shopping trip? My favorite pick for Organics is Trader Joe's. They are my absolute favorite for produce in my area! You can get reasonably priced fruits and veggies there all the time no sales or coupons needed and alot of the organic products are only slightly more expensive then their non organic counterparts. They also offer organic meats and dairy products.

Hit your farmers market or local organic farm!! Many times you can find organic farms in your area or the local farmers market and even if they are not to close you can make this into a fabulous family outing. Kids will love picking out their own fresh fruits and veggies and noshing on them can only lead to go and healthy habits. And more and more stores are carrying Organic varietys. But beware, when something say Natural it does not mean Organic or Pesticide Free and can be very misleading.

Buying Meat If you are looking for meat products hit the internet if you don't have Whole Foods or Trader Joe's in your area. You may be able to find farms that will sell you large portions of beef or chicken.

Dairy Products- Almost all the grocery stores are carrying Horizon and other varieties of organic milk now. You may pay a few bucks more, but it is well worth the investment!

So what do you think? We'd love to hear any other ideas and tips you have for going organic, especially on a budget! Because as mom's we want to save money, but we refuse to sacrifice our families health!
